Setting metadata with storage
Within Azure Storage, blobs and containers support setting additional metadata properties
for both system and user purposes. For instance, a system purpose would be the last modiied
date of an object, where a user-deined metadata property may be storing the name or IP
address of the server that stored the blob for later lookup.
You can set and retrieve the metadata on both containers and blobs through the Azure
SDK or the REST API. Several third-party tools make this process simple. Figure 4-3 shows using
the third-party tool CloudXplorer to add a custom metadata property named Author with
a value of Michael Washam.
